A Note About The Industry-Wide Floral Shortage
Hello my wonderful brides and grooms! (and moms if you are reading this;)) We just wanted to give a little update on everything that is going on with the floral industry post 2020 pandemic!
We are BEYOND excited for the upcoming weddings this season :’) We feel BEYOND BLESSED that you choose us to do your wedding flowers and we could NOT be more pumped outta our minds about it! Thank you so so much for making our dreams a reality amidst this crazy life! We are so happy brides are getting to ACTUALLY have weddings this season and we can’t WAIT to see all the beautiful blooms!
We did, however, want to inform everyone of the flower shortage this season. It’s kinda insane, but the wholesalers have said that they have never seen a shortage like this one! SAY WUT. We know, we were freaking out too. But let us explain.
So basically what they said is there are three things that made this craziness a thing. Covid. Corona. and COVID-19. Lol. But seriously these are reasons why this is what is goin down with the growers and floral farms:
There is less staff because of budget cuts with the pandemic and therefore less blooms planted and less farmers to harvest.
Because of cuts in planes and airline systems, flowers are having to be shipped by truck instead of planes which is risky because it is longer without hydration and it’s also just a lot longer of a process to get anything.
Weird weather across the globe has wiped out some farms and has made it just an all around struggle.
So there ya have it folks. The flower shortage is just plain covid and mother nature’s fault. The farmers are doing ALL they can to grow the gorgeous flowers, the wholesalers are doing ALL they can to keep the flowers fresh and get them from across the globe, and us at Rosie Rue, your floral friends, are doing EVERYTHING within our power to make your wedding as beautiful and as marvelous as you imagine.
But we DO need your help! Because of this shortage we need you to follow these suggestions to make sure we are all working together through this crazy transition into the new normal
Be flexible: KNOW we as your florists are going to do all we can to get you those specialty flowers, peonies, dahlias, garden roses, etc. BUT at the same time, right now we cannot guarantee that you will get a certain flower, especially if it’s a specific color. So be willing to accept substitutions and focus on color rather than specifics if needs be. We will do all we can to get those flowers you would like, but we just want that expectation to be clear!
PAY WELL IN ADVANCE: We are going to start asking that we pay 1 month in advance instead of 3 weeks. This will help to make sure we are all clear on our end to get those flowers ORDERED sooner instead of waiting! We do NOT order any flowers for the wedding UNTIL you have paid in FULL! So triple check that you are putting that into your calendar to pay! And once you get that reminder email do it asap! The sooner we can get that final payment the sooner we can get the flowers ordered and get everything squared away. Usually the wholesaler asks to order 2 weeks in advance, but we are shooting for THREE weeks in advance so that we can make sure we have more time and flexibility to make it work!
Trust us!!: We know this sounds a little freaky. We are obsessed with flowers (obviously;) and know that flowers are a huuge amazing part of the wedding. BUT WE PROMISE HERE AND NOW WE WILL DO EVERYTHING WITH EVERY FIBER OF OUR BEINGS to make your bouquet beautiful despite this crazy sauce stuff! We are passionate about not letting things out the door that we wouldn’t want for ourselves, so know that we will do all we can to give you that beautiful bouquet, even if it isn’t exactly like the pictures!
Okay okay! Thank you for reading this novel! We cannot WAIT for all the fun to come this season! Thank you for EVERYTHING and for being so BEYOND amazing. We honestly don’t know how we got this lucky with each and every one of you. We are not biased, our brides (and grooms) are the best that exist;)
Loves and Hugs and All the best of luck as you finalize everything!
Xoxo,
The Rosie Rue Team 💕
